FA Marker? Proof?

I'm planning a FA this spring on a mountain in AK and I'm wondering if it is common practice to mark summits with something, maybe a USGS marker. How would I get one, place one, etc. Is it worth the trouble? I'm a leave no trace supporter but I believe there may be others looking to push for the same summit soon... any way to prove who was there first? PS- It's alpine so I don't expect much for natural markers. Just get the pics and call it a day?

I really don't know. The sourdoughs carried a 14 foot spruce flag pole to the summit of Denali. This is probably more feasible than a marker unless you are an employee of the USGS and actually doing a survey.

How about a photo of you with a GPS unit in hand displaying the coordinates? All waypoints would further validate your success. I don't know what is standard, but around here, expect profuse skepticism.

Get the pics, get down safe, call it a day. Write it up.

Climb a few remote peaks, see what you find, leave the same if you must prove you were there. (don't be suprised if some guy named Fred left one first)

Climb safe.

that pretty much says everything.

in fact, don't be suprised if you find a note from that Fred guy on the summit of your expected FA, either.
