What if a climber was injured at the time of regionals but will be good for nationals, can they still be in Open or are they just screwed 'till next year?

For Open Competitors: To guarantee a spot in the Open division at Nationals, climbers must be a FULL-SEASON ABS8 member and do one of the following (No qualification is required for Amateur divisions: Recreational, Intermediate, Advanced, Masters): 1. Compete in at least two ABS8 local comps, and a Regional event (placement is not important - just participation) 2. Place top ten in the Open division at any Regional Championship 3. Have competed in the ABS7 Adult National Competition in the Open Division (held at The Spot in February of 2006)

You just restated what was already said. I was asking about extenuating circumstances and if you guys allowed for them or not, because I'd like to enter the division I should be in.

I was talking about Open. I was just wondering if they were hard and fast rules, because I qualify under everything except that I didn't go to regionals because i couldn't climb due to an injury, but I just got back on the wall and I should be back in shape for nationals and I don't think it's right to enter in Advanced if I should be in Open.

Only the Youth had a deadline for registration. The rules are as stated, and no exceptions will be made if you do not meet the qualifications. An OPEN competitor only has to meet one of the listed requirements.

Ok, let me clarify. I'm a full season member, I've been to several local comps, I was not at Nationals last year (CO is too damn far away), I did not go to any Regionals this year due to injury and I don't want to sandbag into the Advanced division, but if that's my only choice for Nationals, I will. I'm mostly asking because last year it was ok with only having gone to 3 locals and having a membership, but you changed them for this year and it screws anyone who for reasons beyond their control couldn't get to Regionals. Sorry for all the confusion.

It is not correct to say that there are no exceptions to the Adult Open qualifications. There are sometimes extenuating circumstances and sometimes injuries can qualify. ABS members can file an appeal to the Appeals Committee. The Adult Open category is limited to 90 male and 90 female competitors. Historically this maximum limit has not been a problem. There is the potential of some confusion because there are few if any exceptions made for the Youth Nationals. The ABS 8 Youth Nationals consists of ten categories and is limited to 30 competitors per category. With the potential exception of Female Juniors, all categories are filled with fully qualified competitors.

Thanks, good to know, I'll be putting one in. I'm not too worried about Youth Nationals as I just turned 23 today.
