Why not? A nice sweat wicking sock would be great....anyone know of any? As thin as possible of course.

if you wear socks with shoes, you are either a complete bumbling gumbie, or a badass old schoooler. there is no middle ground.

smartwool's under my old focuses when it's cold. Once you get used to it there is not much of a performance hit and it definitely teaches you to look at the footholds and put your foot on them in the best place. I'm only 25 so i guess that makes me a bumbling gumbie.

You mean like these?

those are my cold day socks (for über-sending-madness), but I'd imagine you're looking for something a little less... uh, well, just a little less.

I hate socks in my climbing shoes unless it's cold enough for my feet to be numb anyway, but if you check out a running shop they'll have all sorts of socks that will work well.

I also have socks from Fox River that would definitely work really really well.

If it was that cold, then why the shorts?

I wear socks in the fall and spring. The shoes are just painfully cold without them babies!

Nope - you're still weird Tongue

Seriously it's out of style to wear socks unless you are +50 years old and can pull hard.... When you wear socks it causes the shoes to slip/slide on your foot and makes them less sensitive.

Cold weather climbing obviously needs a compromise..

Go to any outdoor store and you can find wicking socks, typically meant for hiking and backpacking, their super thin and you won't know they're there at all. Not the kind of sock you would want for the above demonstrated purposes though as they won't protect you at all.

BTW Angry, is that you on Bellyful of Bad Berries, or just a random pic, if so how did you fair on it?

Yeah, that's me on Bellyfull. I did not send. I've tried it a few times and never gotten it and honestly, I don't know why. Seriously, the feet are great, the stacks are great, and the gear is perfect. Unlike most hard offwidths, it's not a puzzle. Yet, it's really fucking hard.

I'm going to go do 1000 sit ups.

They're 3/4 lengths, so between those and the socks I'm actually completely covered (most of the time) and quite comfortable. I boulder in my jeans from time to time, but truth be told I don't own any pair of pants as comfortable as those shorts.

That, and boulderers wear toques (beanie fer the 'mericans) and no shirts in the summer, it's also in good form to wear long, warm socks and shorts in the middle of winter.

That was my pathetic attempt at making a jokeCoolThat was cool how you played it off though, and actually knew everything about the photo. Anyways, I posted a picture a while back and I was wearing socks too. I figured I would wear them to reduce chaffing and add warmth. Then I got a pm from hosh suggesting I try climbing without them. Helps reduce stinkage too.

Hi I'm from Australia,

you'll probably be hearing more from me. I onsighted a 5.11 on my 2nd days climbing, sure it was bolts but eh...

and it was all done with the help of my luck Jack Daniels socks. I will soon be the climber in all the calendars with socks, I will singlehandley make them cool beacuse I'm cool

they also double as nice warm c)ndoms 'cos all the chicks at camp are all over me like a rash and I'm against anything plastic.

so sock on and be like me
Sly

I think socks really help me climb better (not physically). They keep the smell of the shoes at bay - and I'm not passed out between attempts....

To start, try wearing them when no one is around. If you hear some one coming role them up and hide them in the front of your pants.

I would advise against running/wicking socks as they are designed to slip within the shoe. Wool or cotton is where it is at.
