How long into the spring/summer does snow stick around Whitney et al?

I'm looking into a trip there mid-June, wondering if I'll need to pack 'pons and an axe.

The normal descent route is the Mountaneers route and even in August you probably should have an axe for the descent. Especialy if you get caught out late when it goes into shade.

Crampons can be left at home. It's usually stomped out pretty well.

We went up in mid September and there was still snow on MR. It wasn't an issue for us but it was almost a full month later than you'll be there. Hmm. We're going to be there late August this year. Didn't think about that. Should probably get an axe.

Keep in mind its been a really weak year in terms of snow. Ive gone up in early june with an axe and no crampons on a very heavy snow year and was fine. I came up from the west off the PCT though, not the mountaineers route. My guess would be axe and no crampons this year.
