What are some good 0 degree synthetic bags? I've looked at a couple but can't really decide... any advice? I'm looking to spend no more than $200. Thanks!

For car camping, a 5 pound monster that won't pack down smaller than a garbage can is just fine... which begs the question: what are you using it for? What is your criteria for a good bag- weight, durability, sizing, compressability, etc? Will you be wearing an insulated jacket inside the bag? Obviously, cost is a factor, ruling out Integral Designs nice synthetic bags. I personally would not want to fight the bulk and weight of a synthetic in that temperature range, but if you don't plan on packing it- get the cheapest, thickest bag you can find. Montbell is affordable. Campmor has many offerings, some are dirt cheap. The only thing I would recommend against is PG 3D, as found in a Mountainsmith bag on sale at REI-Outlet right now. My experience with it has shown it to be less durable than Primaloft or PG Delta. I was always told that Primaloft is not terribly durable, but I can't kill a 6 year old Marmot Flash jacket... still pretty close to new. Primaloft drapes well and packs to a reasonable size.

I have a Mountain Hardware Lamina 15 deg back which I'm pretty happy with. It's synthetic, relatively light and packs down pretty small. I think there are 0 deg and -15deg versions of the Lamina too. These bags are in your price range and I think you can find pretty good deals on Lamina bags once in a while from various online sites. -hch

REI has a 20% off for REI members things going on at rei.com. There are some good deals going on there. I'm getting the Mountian Hardware -15 degree bag that after the discount is like 170 bucks. THere are some other cheaper ones there depending on what you wan to spend. It does cost $15 to get the REI membership... but with the 20% off thats a good trade.

pick up the Mtn Hardware Ultra Lamina if its available- its pretty cheap, very lightweight, and stuffs to the same size as a 5 degree down.... i have the 15 degree version and its significantly warmer than my 15 degree mtn hardware 2nd dimension.

well, i'm an REI member already so i've got that 20% off and have been looking at the bags that they've got. as far as weight, i'm not too concerned, because it will be mostly used for car camping. i'd like something that isn't huge and that can be stuffed down pretty well. i know that a down bag has it's benefits, and that's next on the list, but i have a more immediate need for synthetic right now since i'll be living in my bag for the summer, and doing a trip in a few weeks that will put it near water. i am a huge fan of mhw so i'll check out the ultra lamina... thanks

Kasharp: Mountain Gear.com has a sale now, and they have the Lamina 15 on sale for $104. Not quite what you were looking for, but close (15 vs. 0). And damn cheap, too.

I have a 15 degree bag from Marmot. It's half synthetic and half down, so I get the benefits of each

I picked up a generic 0 degree synthetic for $25 at Walmart. It's bulky & heavy and I wouldn't think about trying to hike anywhere with it, but for car camping the thing can't be beat. I figure I can destroy 6-7 of these things before I've spent REI prices on a bag.
