I remember the days where you went out climbing and everybody there was wearing painters/carpenter pants and a tee shirt. Now it's a fashion show! ! ! Everyone(execpt me) is decked out head to toe in paRana, Patagonia,The North Face,Marmot,or some other high dollar brand. Are you going to climb or to show off the clothes you have????? It's pretty easy to spot me at the rock.I'm the one in a faded #3 shirt minus the sleaves and a pair of carpenters pants or shorts from WAL MART ! ! ! ! !

Fashion is for losers. Wear what works for you, if you critique your own apperance (choose particular colors, use make-up, pluck your brows etc...) Thats EGO and no-one likes Mr Me.

You're jealous, or you think you are more hardcore than any "posers" that wear name brands. Which is it? My guess is the latter. Who gives a flying fuck.

You were at a sport climbing area, wern't you? Seriously some of those clothes designed for climbing really are pretty comfortable and non- restrictive to climb in. So if you can afford it WTF? Me? I can't. I mostly climb in carharts and a cotton tee. If I am wearing clothes like you mentioned I probably got it on sale or ebay, wore it to the gym(not rock gym) till it looked like crap, then wore it climbing.

Yeah, what's up with label obsessions? Eveyone knows it's not about the company that makes your clothes but about how well your shirt and shorts/ pants match with your harness, shoes and chalk bag. Really, your rope and quick draws should match of you're climbing sport (belay device is optional). Your crashpad should match if you're bouldering. Ice climbers could manage a colour scheme, but trad and aid... well, I guess if you're willing t paint your gear. Truth be told, I'm a very handsome guy. By that I mean I'm pretty much the sexiest man alive. It's hard to find clothes that match my awesome prettiness, so at the very least I can pay out the nose for clothes that come sort of close... although, I get discounts now (really companies should be paying me to wear their stuff though).

Sometimes the shirt is name-brand, but I've never paid any money for 'em. Shirts in general are over-rated, I say ditch 'em.

I climb in "breakaway"* brand tracksuit pants and the oldest helly hansen T-shirt made. I do notice the trendies and think, nice swish gear but at the end of the day as long as you're enjoying who cares Plus I do have a rep for being the most under and badly dressed person at ANY occasion and I must uphold this as it saves money and I get very few invites so more time to climb * real pensioner tracksuit pants they are tailored with a line down the middle so they are good for church, bingo and a trip to the ale house.

I care less about what climbers are wearing, and more about the fact that some parties choose to CAMP-OUT at the base of some climbs! I mean jeeeze! I climbed four (single-pitch) routes with my girlfriend yesterday and the same group of posers where still goofing off and acting way too cool at the base of the most popular moderate route at the crag! They had their bouldering pads skillfully constructed into little "couches" and gear was strewn everywhere like a frickin' yardsale! I guess that I am just used to walking up to the crag, picking out a worthy (and open) route, climbing it, offering it to my partner for a lap, then moving on and repeating the process....without taking every piece of gear out of my backpack and being a route hog!

Maybe I am hard on clothes when I climb. Or is climbing hard just hard on clothes? Is it just me or does trad seem to be harder on clothes than sport. If so why spend lots of money on clothes to be ruined climbing, when you can get cheaper clothes and spend the extra money on trad gear. I would rather have a dream rack than a closet full of pretty clothes.

See, I don't ruin clothes when I climb. It's called not using your knees. They get wicked dirty, but i've had the same pair of prana sweats for 5 years now, they smell and are stained but are fine otherwise. Gosh guys.

^^ Purely a function of the style of climbing you do, Mo. As for the rest of it... whether you crag wearing the latest Kadeja (sp?) or a pickle barrel and two straps, clothes never did and never will make the climber.
