The Sears Tower is good for multi pitch. Though getting a permit is hard to do from what I hear. Seriously though...it's hit or miss at the gyms. VE is the biggest. I have been there when it's empty and packed, which is no fun so you just go across the street and drink and wait out the parties. For outdoor: The DL is about 3 hours away and Soill is about 6.

Wells Street Athletic club supposedly has a decent wall, and the Old Town Fitplex apparently has a sizeable climbing community. There's also Hidden Peak, which is more bouldering than climbing. There's the Chicago Mountaineering Club... that's a great way to meet up with climbers and find good places to climb. Good luck!
