I heard the weather is going to suck this weekend, like freezing rain and stuff. No one should go to the gunks unless they want to have a mini epic and lose a finger or two to frostbite.

Your right. Nobody climb at the Gunks this weekend unless they want to have a really bad time and climb in some of the most extreme conditions imaginable. Rain, wind, snow, hail, all of that. So if you were planning on climbing, your better off just going to the gym for the day.

Damn it. I've been having so much fun climbing *** routes with no crowds. Looks like I'll have to revert to trying too hard on moderately difficult routes or (better) climbing off-vertical grunge that doesn't even get bold print in the Williams book and hiding at obscure outlying crags.

As of Tuesday, Rt 299 was still closed between Hugenot St and Libertyville Rd due to the Wallkill River flooding. Does anyone know if it is open yet? Google hasn't turned up any reports newer than Tuesday. If I find any better beta, I'll post it.

Don't you dare. If no one can figure it out, they don't deserve to get to the Gunks.

Climbing with crowds isnt usually that much of a problem. Either get on some harder routes, routes that dont have the best gear, or better yet, climb on weekdays and avoid the crowds all together. Any of those three criteria and you will hardly ever encounter a line. Of course your idea of obscure crags and dirty climbs would probably work as well.
