Why not use a single friction knot wrapped around both strands of the rope, instead of the two tiblocs+sling?

first, yeah, bad first post man.. come on. second, to the OP, why'd you delete your post? you asked a legit question about tiblocs. Yeah, it looked over complicated, and given the choice id just use an autoblock or prussic, but no need to just go and delete it

i don't remember deleting it and i did enjoy the responses, and yeah as i said before not my first choice but sometimes i'd like to know the most complex and pare it down. since i know the simplest.

This comes up once a year or so, do a search for tiblocs. Short answer: tiblocs are cool, but they'll eat your rope for lunch if they slip, so unless you're experienced enough to keep a cool head while using them they raise the risk factor for your partner and yourself significantly. But it's your call. Have fun.

ohi totally agree, they have their place, and i've done a lot of practice to the point of internalizing the hand movements so thati set the tibloc the right way and it doesn't slip. i also don't use them in a situation where they would normally be subject to shock loading... good for ascending but it's scary to think of that little peice of metal catching a good fall. my original post was just and idea i got from an ascender scually made for tree climbing two strands, i just got the idea of putting the tiblics together to see if it was viable using them and a atc in autobloc to ascend a rope like that, the answer is yes but it's slow and a pain in the ass to set both blocks move pull the atc and repeat. wouldi use it if i had to? yes. but a dualscender would be my choice if doing it frequently. prussiks and autobloks work too, but sometimes unfortunatly, you need teeth imo.

Wasn't exactly clear what you're up to without seeing the first post. The Wild Country Ropeman is less scary than tiblocs for lightweight ascending, if that's the idea.
