All, This website is excellent, but it is lacking a central map of good climbing locations. So, I've begun to fix that by mapping many good climbing spots near me. Check out the map, if you are interested in adding your favorite spot, let me know so we can share the crags. http://maps.google.com/...b62&z=9&om=1 climbtheworld@gmail.com

Can we just put a big red mark over California, Utah, Nevada, Idaho, Arizona, Colorado, and Wyoming?

Didn't Tim Toula do this already in Rock 'N Road?

No, Rock 'N Road hasn't made it readily available. I've searched the internet, but there appears to be nothing free out there....I'd love it if someone could tell me different.

Blubeard, Good job on the map. It looks like you put a lot of work into it. I was researching US hot springs and found that there are some tricks to quickly loading a google map that has MANY points. This might be necessary if more people contribute. Eli

Eli, Thanks for the bump, actually it takes almost no work, only a minute or two per location; if you have a gmail account try it out at http://www.maps.google.com.....

I've done something similar in google earth to help me locating local climbing spots - only problem is, a lot of the ones I've marked are places I've never actually been, so their locations probably aren't quite right. I grew up near Boyertown, but didn't become interested in climbing until I moved from PA to GA, so your map will be a great help next time I'm home visiting family.

It is pretty cool to see where stuff is and zoom in on it. If everyone took a minute or two and contributed to their local crags it would be an awesome tool. Plus with j_ung looking into revamping the RDB, maybe this could be incorporated somehow. To edit the map, all you have to do is sign in. It's free to get a google account and you can use your existing e-mail (ie. you don't need yet another e-mail that you never use)

This I know, I own the book, its cool. But is there any interaction with it? Can you get it to give you driving directions to each area? Both textual and online versions have their places and uses.

We try to keep the crags on the down-low here. More and more each passing year bolts have started to appear. So those of us who know where the good local rocks are , like to know who and trust the ethics of those who we share them with. Blubeard did do a great job on this . Keep in prospective that giving everyone access to the answers may not be in the climbing communities best interest. Since there are access issues and problems caused by n00bs as was just discussed in another thread who (take short cuts, and gyms , meet up groups) …Wouldn’t it be better to let them show some resourceful finding skills on their part. By doing some research / homework make an effort. Making friends with a local community who would guide them in the area and its ethics…. I think this could find its way to being abused , not by all, but the few who do will cause drama for the rest of us.
