For you beginners out there, some advice that I sure could have used when I started climbing: Some bolts are bad and can break. Yeah, yeah, it's "obvious" - but we can all use a reminder. Many climbers, even veterans, don't know much about telling precisely what bolt is what, often because old bolts were homemade, pulled out of the cheap bin at the hardware store, etc. Even new bolts can break or pull out if incorrectly installed. BUT, bad new bolts are rare.
