Linking pictures directly from the internet in the routes db?

Was wondering if it was possible or someday would be possible to link to pictures on the net directly? I am not sure which is better form(ethically), to link directly or to download from the source then upload to here. (for the routes pictures of course on the forum i would just link whichever was already online).

For an example
-source http://portlandrockclimbs.com
would it be better to link directly to that or download it and upload it.

Sorry long day and tired hope some of that made since.

We'd prefer the pictures to be uploaded to RC.com. That ensures that (1) you have the right to use the picture (well at least that's implied if you abide by our content submission rules), and (2) The link doesn't become broken when the external site (over which we have no control) changes the URL, or moves/deletes the picture.
