Coopers, Labor Day Weekend 2007

I'd post this in the Trip Report thread, but I don't usually post anywhere else on the site anyway. Only you Scummunity folks are familiar w/ my persona.

So.... (click the thumbnails for larger pics)

I had the opportunity to head to Coopers Rock, WV for a couple days of camping and climbing. Last time I had been climbing was Labor Day weekend 2006, and 2005. Only 2 times out in the last 3 years. My skills, strength, and endurance are lacking, in my mind.

So, I drove into the campgrounds Saturday evening and charley and I set up camp.

We cooked up some dinner and sat around the fire and had a few cold ones.

Sunday came along and we drove over to Coopers and set up some TR on Sunshine Wall.
betaben and katydid hiked in just as I was tying in to start the day. We climbed well, swapped stories, shared our rigs w/ others coming in to climb, and had an overall great day.

charley and I headed back to the campground to clean up and then off to Ben and Kate's place for some char-grilled animal flesh. Burgers and brats. Ben can really grill up a burger. Add some potato salad and beverage of your choice, and you've got a great post climbing dinner. We engaged in great conversation and good times were had by all.

Back to the campground to put a few back around the fire and grab some sleep.
Monday morning rolls around, and after another great breakfast we head to the crag and set up a few more TR rigs in the sunshine area. We were joined by a friend of charley and betaben.

And then we climbed, and climbed and climbed some more.
Unknown to me until after the climb, some of the climbs were in the .10 range. Needless to say, the mental aspect really makes a difference.

Good times were had by all.

It's seen better days.
I still wear it once in a while, but my wife keeps getting me a new one to wear because my old ones get so ragged and dirty.

I guess your wife hasn't seen the one you had at the fire. I had to hide one that looked like that. My wife wants to throw it away. Yes we old folks get out and climb at times.

She's seen that one.
I got that one myself, and one time in the wash and the brim tore apart.
I purposly didn't bring the good one she got me last so I wouldn't get it dirty/ripped to shreds.
I should ware my red one more often. It's my favorite. I got it for xmas in '95 from my sisters. It's been to Canada, Iceland, France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Luxemburg and Switzerland, and numerous states. It's been burried in the snow, blown into the Atlantic, partied at Groundhog day, down the Yough a bunch of times, made countless climbs on my head and clipped to my chalkbag. Dropped from many cliffs.... So many memories.

And, Bill, you're not old. Just very exprienced in life. Wink

You can use the glue gun on the frazzled beak of that hat.

I used super glue on my red one, but when it dried it made the edge really sharp.
Hot glue may work better. I'll have to try that w/ the other one.
What would I do w/out you around, Bill?
heh
