How many routes are there and what is the range of grading at Military Wall?

Military is awesome. The 5.9's there are classic and somewhat stiff compared to other destinations in the Red. Have fun.

Military Wall doesn't have many (any?) routes below 5.9. You may have better luck in Left Flank (same trailhead as Military) or Muir Valley (southern gorge). But if you want your first lead to be 9 or higher than more power to you.

I think there are only two 5.9 at Military. Sun..... something, and Moon..... something. And they are next to each other, they are short. But there are some nice .11 and .12 at Military...if thats what you are looking for, have fun.

I agree that Left Flank would be the better place for a first sport lead, though i think there are some easier gear lines at Military. I didn't care for those two .9s at Military; they were very polished. The 10c-ish thing on that wall was good, though, and everything on the wall with Fuzzy Undercling is fun.

I think you are joking, but I'm not sure. It's hard for me to imagine a 5.9 route becomming 5.12 after a single hold breaks. Unlikely, but anything's possible I guess.

Sunshine and Moonbeam.

Two very "humbling" 9's

Roadside .....I know there is a section if you keep going past ten wall and Roo shampoo that have a number of easy climbs....give that a look if .8 is what you looking for ( I think they are .8 or something like that)

Those two 5.9's at military are rather tough. I def. would not recommend them for a first lead. I think the 10c to the right of the two 9's is almost easier, esp. if you stick clip the first bolt.

Roadside does have some easy stuff past ro shampo. The easiest sport is a 5.7, and yeah, its pretty easy. I think it shares anchors with a 5.3 trad route....

Sunshine was my first lead and is definitely stiff as stated before. Muir Valley has some 9s and 10s that would be good as well.
