I'm leaving on a 2-3 month trip to drive through Central America. I'll have a blog posted at http://www.laakso.us if anyone is interested. I'll post stories and photos when I can get a decent internet connection and i'm not surfing or fishing.

Sounds like a fantastic trip, I'm definitely on the jealousy bus. How was Baja CI? Were you surfing? Kayaking? or Resorting?

Damn, that would have been better than the crappy Best Western, which was incidentally more expensive then an ocean view room at the Holiday Inn in Mazatlan. Here are photos of the rig(now named the Utahco): and a photo of the Michoacan coast:

Been out for 21 days, probably gone for another 40 or so. It totally depends on when we run out of money and when I get work I can't pass up. Anyway, crossed into Guatemala today. Super easy process, which was a nice surprise. Here is a good photo from the Lago de Atitlan:

In Antigua Guatemala now. Guatemala is awesome but pretty stressful to drive in. Makes Mexico look like Iowa. We were just going to go to Nicaragua, but now I am thinking I am weak if I dont go all the way to the Panama Canal. We'll see. Definitely did not bring the dog. I'd need a horse trailer for her, and she would hate the heat. I think the dog is the only reason why I will ever come back north.

I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to move this to Trip Reports. I know that this isn't a climbing trip - per-say - but this shouldn't be lost in the community dribble.

Did you buy a surfing monkey coin bank yet? Cant pass through central america without getting one of those sweet items. Plus I think it counts as an extension of your visa, if the immigration officials see you have bought a surfing monkey coin bank. Hope your travels are safe and happy. Oh and hows the rock down there anyway?

I just had the best day of my entire fucking life: Its way too hot down here to rock climb. Maybe some place up in the highlands might be ok, but mostly i've just seen volcanic choss. I'd rather surf, fish, drink beer, and climb volcanos. Anyway, i'm in El Salvador now and loving it. The surfing is great, the border crossing was tough, and now i'm hanging out up in the highlands in Apaneca. I'll be in Honduras in 2 more days.

I pulled into Panama City today, so every mile from here is a mile closer to home. Kinda sad, but driving over the Bridge of the Americas over the Panama Canal was a cool experience and i'm feeling pretty god about my accomplishment. 8 border crossings, 5800 miles, lots of fun, not one fight with my traveling partner wife, and today is my 2 year wedding anniversary. The only reason I am posting now is that my wife is out getting a nice set of clothes for us to go out on the town in since everything else we have is jungle gnarly.
