Does anyone know of a cheaper moulding material that RTV silicone?? I want to make my own holds, but making the moulds are VERY expensive, the holds that come out on the other hand are very inexpensive. Latex seems to be a cheaper option, but I have heard of a material that you can be re-melted and used again, does anyone know what it is called?? Any other ideas on mould making? and extra info on making holds?

i have heard of ppl using a sort of latex/rubber mold. the mold is then very flexible. i would wonder as to the durability of this, however. the other method i have heard of, probably what u r using, is using silicon cauking, which i believe should be very cheap...

one question i have for you about molds though: if you have a hold that flares in, like a deep jug or a dogdish hueco or a pocket, anything that curves in on itself, how do u get the hold off the mold? i would think you would need a latex flexible mold for this.

thanks
mike

Fill a large bucket, cooler, whatever, full of sand. Add water until the sand is wet, not too wet (if you dig a hole in it - it won't fill up with water). Flatten the sand out and dig whatever shape you want in the sand. Mix your plastic, pour it in the hole you dug, and let set. Pop your hold out after an hour or so. You can make tons of holds this way without ever making a single mold. You can make huge, featured holds without much trouble. You get good texture too.

yeah but probably doesn't work too well for bondo holds...
plastic seems like it would be too much of a pain in the but... i would only make holds out of bondo.

When I said 'plastic' I meant Bondo, or any other polyester resin body filler.
