can we rappel from the moon? (that would be roughly 385 000km)
if we combine all the climbing ropes of the rockclimbing.com users, would it be enough to rappel from the moon to the earth?

post the combined length of your ropes and ad i to the pool.

for example i start with 335m.
the next one has only 50m. so post this, and ad it, like "i have 50m, so the total lenght is 385m"
the next one has 500m, so he has to post "i have 500m, so that makes 885m total"
and so on.
and that we have something to control the result, click also your ropelenght in the poll.

so to repeat: i start with 335m, wich makes a total of 335m

I have 120 m, so that makes 455 m.

Are we allowing for knots? DFKs or EDKs. Either way, this is going to be a lot of knots to pass.

yes, there need to be knots.
however the facts that they need rope ist offset by the rope stretch, so we dont need to calculate them.
we use EDKs because if you use a big 8 as rappel device, you can ssimply rap over them.

Ok, at work I have 1910 m, and at home I have 1057 for a total of 2967 m. Adding that to the 455 m puts it to 3422 m.

I don't want to be the person that is moving it all into 1 place.

Well, my pale 330m of rope brings i to 3752m

Wonder if sterlingjim and sterlingsonya will add to this? I'm sure that they'll add a buttload to our minuscule number.

Another 170m here.... brings it to 4042m

What about 3m of shoelaces made from 3mm cord? We could use that to make the ADT.

Realistically, we'd only need 2.75e5 km of rope if we were rappelling from the moon. We'd have to climb the remaining hundred-ten thousand kilometers because the moon also has a gravitational field.
