After being married for four years to a non-climber and now going through the whole bullshit divorce thing, getting married again is not at the top of my list right now. But if I were to consider marriage again the girl would have to be a climber...and be willing to sign a prenup.

I think he's asking whether he'll be the Spooner or the Spoonee

Just remember Majid, if you're the catcher it's important to make sure your partner wears his helmet. Yours won't be helping you much.

well, E., if you're going to catch, how could I refuse to throw? Ah... nevermind anyway. Baseball's just too boring. I quit playing, rarely even spectate anymore even. The next one'll be a climber for me. Who better to spend your time on the next proj with, other than someone you enjoy spending time with?

You are doomed to misery either way. If your spouse doesn't climb, you have nothing in common. If they do, it's a fight over what style to do, competition over grades, what crag to go to, or who gets the new cam.

It's a catch-22. In the beginning, I want someone I can share my passions with, and will go with me to the crag... what I want to do when I'm not working. Later on, I will probably want any excuse to get away, so if she climbs, I don't have that as an out... she'll wanna go too, which sucks. In the long run, I'd prefer that she makes great sandwiches back at camp and has them ready for me and the boys after we climb.

Your sentence construction makes your question a little difficult to understand . "Will you marry a climber" makes me think of destiny, am I destined to marry a climber? Is that your thinking? If it was then the average person is very unlikely due to the amount of climbers in the general population. Maybe, what you meant to say "Would you marry a climber". That sure sounds a lot better. Then I would say definitely no, don't mix business with pleasure.

Probably not. Climbing is my time. After dating a climber I have found that the last thing I want is to mix bullshit with climbing. Plus unless you are all friends to begin with it just makes your climbing friends not want to climb with you.

I don't think I would go that far either. Marrying a climber is a different dynamic, but having someone who doesn't understand climbing is VERY bad. I would never dream of climbing with my wife all of the time. They aren't going to and shouldn't be your best climbing partner ever. At the same time it is awesome when vacation time rolls around because you know damn well you will be climbing rather than going to Dinseyland for the 5th year in a row. They are also way more likely to go along with your crazy ideas to quit your job and climb for months on end.
