Its where you climb without a rope and if you fall, you fall into nice, soft water. At least that's how the theory goes. Check the expected landing point before you pitch, and make sure its deep enough even at low tide. Otherwise, its pretty much like bouldering, except no spotters, and the pad is oddly fluid. Go to www.climbxmedia.com and in "the dose" is Klem Loskot (incredible bad ass) deep water soloing in Spain. F***ing incredible.

Don't forget to push off when you fall, and I wouldn't get too high off the water. I am not sure how high you have to get, but at some point the water stops being a cushion and turns into a hard floor when you hit.

You can get pretty damn high though. I'd estimate that Klem takes some 40-60 footers into the water, and goes back to try it again. I bet it gets pretty hard to hold your breath long enough to swim back to the surface after one of those falls!

Note: The Klem Loskot video is not in Spain,it's in Mallorca. Trivial difference perhaps, but I've been there, and if you tell the poeple living there that they are in Spain, youll lose your head. It IS a kick ass video though. VERY VERY Cool. I used to watch it 4 5 times a day, lol.

I've seen it, but I've always wondered about the effect on the shoes, also a chalkbag would get pretty wrecked too huh?

When attempting a water solo, be mindful of exactly where you COULD fall. This is different from where you intend to fall. Realize that you may swing before falling. Have spotters around to tell you if you're safely above deep enough water. If you're going to attempt something like this, I'd imagine you'll just trash some shoes and chalkbags having a great time, but be careful. Also, about holding your breath for a long enough period of time to get back to the surface, it's not all that hard if you know to take a huge breath before hitting. We jump off of a 50 ft rock into a local river (but only in winter/early spring for depth). Another warning, don't put your arms out to break the fall, it will bruise them very very badly!!!!

That video didn't seem to safe with the waves crashing into the rocks. Water is a powerful thing and you would easisly get KO and drowned if you go caught between the wave and the rock

deep-water soloing: CRASHPAD=WATER The perfect combination of cliff-jumping and free-soloing, in otherwords, a good reason to do the stupid things we did when we were younger, BEFORE we knew what gear was, and that climbing shoes were not the same thing as tennishoes. Definately give it a try, it is SOOOOO liberating!
