So me and my partner are officially heading to Devils Tower. He and I are both very excited in so many ways. Before we actaully go we will be practicing some multi at Linnville Gorge Tennessee (around where he and my gf live.)

Though I am super excited, I finally realized something. Though I am a good climber and he is very good climber, I had this sandbag thrown on me. I do not know how I will react to such a long climb. I have done ~100 foot climbs before and they do not bother me in the least, falling does not bother me one bit. I just...is there anything you guys can tell me? Like anything to put my mind at ease?

I'll assume you're starting with the Durrance route at Devil's Tower. First two pitches are about 80 ft each... can easily be combined as one. Use LONG RUNNERS to minimize rope drag.

Keep in mind: the higher you get on this pitch, the easier the moves become.

Other recommended summit routes:

El Cracko: 5.8
Bon Homme Variation: 5.8+
Soler: 5.9-
Assemblyline: 5.9
Walt Bailey: 5.9
Tulgey Wood: 10a
McCarthy West Face Variation: 10b

ENJOY!

The routes you'll probably be climbing have such little exposure that you won't notice it. The tower is good for that.

Wear a helmet on that side, it's not called the bowling alley for nothing.

I did a super short 3 pitch route then went to the tower and did Wiesners, it was my first long route.

You'll like it.

Check for ticks.

Actaully I lied. Linville Gorge is in very western NC. Eastern Tennessee and westen Carolina, especially around the holston region is very similar. Sorry about the re-ports by the way. I just needed some information, sorry! Im just really excited for this trip.

And don't you damn well forget it. We get cranky when people start to suggest that *anywhere* else is the SouthEast's trad capital.

Yeah well when you live south of Fayetnam and finally get to some real climbing you lose track of where you are and are just happy to see some real rock! Effing Scotland County...
