I have to do a concept essay for my english class. I was going to do it on how people sleep in portaleges and how the eat and stuff... My teacher thought it was a good idea but he was a bit floored when I told him about my intro. I have heard stories of the Fresno bomb squad coming up to Yosemite to blow up poop tubes left by El Cap. Now I was going to just use it as my intro but he now wants me to condense the topic down. So I've decided to do it on Big Wall hygene. If anyone knows some good places to get a hold of a good article or two to get some good base for my paper it would be greatly appreciated.

Just get any book on hygiene and tie a "clip in" loop onto it.
You now have your very own "BIG WALL HYGIENE BOOK"

You might do better to ask questions about big-wall hygiene to big-wall climbers. What specifically are you trying to find out? I'll try and answer with a quick run-down on MY big-wall hygiene and you can respond with more specific questions.
-Pooping generally done onto a doubled-up ripped open paper bag while on a small ledge. Sometimes while counterb-balancing off the edge of the porta-ledge and pooping directly into a doubled-up paper bag when no ledge is there. If necessary, onto the opened bag on the portaledge. It's my buddies ledge and I don't want it smelling like shite, so this last option is usually a last resort.
-Disposal methods could take me a while to write. So...let's just say that I've hauled said waste in a dry bag and a PVC poop-tube in the past. I'm currently looking for a better way and not impressed with the wall-flower enough to want to try it.
-I generally don't brush my teeth at all on a wall. Neither does my partner.
-I try to change my socks everyday with a new pair of liners. I only wear liners!
-Although I'll carry one pair of underwear in the haul-bag, I don't rememeber changing my underwear on a wall. Prety gross, huh? I have yet to leave the proverbial "skid-marks", so not a major issue. Maybe that was a little too much information, eh?
-I use handy-wipes every morning and night to clean my feet, my hands and anything else that might need cleaning.

I think i saw something in Rock and Ice magazine a few months bak in the tips section about how to carry poo with you on a big wall.
