I'm investing in a new hammer drill and i'm trying to decide between these two monsters. I can get them both for around the same price, and their features seem to be about the same. Any body own one of these or know about them? And please dont gimmie the whole "dont bolt if you dont know what your doin" speach, i know what i'm doing.

Every power tool experience in my life points me towards the bosch. They've been fantastic in terms of reliability, performance and particularly after-sales support.

I've been using the older 24 volt bosch hammer but a bolting colleague recently picked up the 36 volt Li-Ion and wow has it got some grunt, its only slightly heavier but seems to drill three times faster, makes any rock feel like butter.

Have never managed to break anything on the bosch drills but broke a little speed adjustment wheel on my bosch grinder when I pushed it off the bench, rang up the bosch distributor. This model was pretty old and the plastic rotary wheel isn't something which would normally be carried as a spare, they said it would take some looking into and took my details. Didn't hear anything back but 4 days later the part arrived in the mail, no bill, no invoice, just a short note telling me to let them know if I had any other problems.

The rechargeable drills are no match to gas operated power drill. These guys can drill 100 bolts ,nonstop on a tank of gas. The short version has low and high and hammer selection. The longer one(black) is full hammer SDS drill and it is about 11 lbs. They are $2700 new and $700 used if you ever find one.

The Milwaukee Hammer drill we had in our construction company was the biggest POS ever.I think we drilled MAYBE 30 holes with it,during which time it broke down five or six times .As in internal electric problems.Sometimes it lasted less than sixty seconds after getting it back from the shop.Mostly small holes too.

The $2000 difference between gas and cordless will buy a lot of extra batteries!

The Bosch hammer drills are second to none. I own both corded and cordless rotary hammers. I have used them to hang bolts, demolish stone and concrete, drill blast holes, and even bore large diameter holes in trees, in rotation only mode (check out the SDS plus-to-1/2" smooth bit adapter from Makita). Never a hiccup. The 36 volt batteries are impressive. Definitely a Bosch fan.

Hiltis- at least the corded models- work well also, but are terribly overpriced, in my opinion. I do not believe their cordless models can touch Bosch.

I put up the first route with the new Bosch yesterday and Oh My God. We had that giddy laugh like when you drive a fast car or shoot a big gun. It went through this rock (with high iron content) like butter. It was truely impressive. Anyone looking into buying one should do it now. I'm not sure but i think they are coming out with a new model or something, because it seems like stores are trying to liquidate these bosch hammers for cheap. I got mine for only $549, thats a steal.

They are awesome. For anyone who's looking - I've got my ALMOST NEW one for sale in the classifieds. Bought for a bunch of projects, drilled a hole in test granite to test it and then the projects were put on indefinite hold (expecting 1st child). Who wants to give it a good home? I've got bits etc I can throw in too.

I will take your SDS bits, hangers and bolts if you got any.
