Devils Tower Partners?

When: September 2-6
Where: Devils Tower

Due to a work conflict my previous partner had to back out of our Tower trip. I'm looking for a climbing partner (or two or three!) who is comfortable with trad leading to do the Tower with me.

I've been climbing for the past five years and leading for the past three. The majority of my leading has been done in Minnesota and the Needles and I have a couple of multi pitch climbs under my belt. I trad lead into the 5.9 range but will follow anything up to a 5.10c. I figured we could take a day and warm up on the shorter single pitch climbs and then attempt to summit the Tower after that. I’m very interested in leading El Cracko Diablo.

If the weather turns nasty we could always hit up Rushmore or the Needles.

So anyone interested in accompanying me to the Tower?

I should have added that I posted my partner request here in the Midwest forum in hopes of finding a local partner that I can meet and climb with a bit before the Tower trip.

El Cracko is good. Its only two pitches so don't bother with the "warm up" pitches before getting on it.

Walt Baily Memorial is really good to and shouldn't be missed.

I could be wrong, but I think if the weather is Jacke at the Tower it will be in the Hills too. I think the Hills tend to be worse.

Do you know Frank?

Also, the Tower is agood place to try and push your limits. The gear is generally good and the routes are more endurance than hard so there aren't any stopper moves. Polish up on your jamming and get your calves in shape before your trip too.

Thanks for the feedback. If the weather is bad I'll be checking the forecasts for the Needles and Hills. I know that realistically any bad weather will spill over into those areas but they're worth a shot.

I don't know Frank personally but I do know of his extra-ordinary hospitality and friendly nature. A friend of mine said I should hire him as a guide if I can't find a partner anywhere else.

Thanks for you help!

If you have your shit together you can likely find partners at Franks. I've spent a lot of time out there on my own and can usually find people to climb with, but I spent some of that time climbing with guides on their time off.

Hiring Frank would be money well spent. You probably wouldn't get to lead, but you would get to climb your ass off all day long if you would like.

Yeah I am shying away from just picking up a partner at campground for the simple fact that I just don't like climbing with someone I don't know.

I have my shit together rather well for the grades I'd be leading. Obviously I'm no hardman so I'd prefer to climb with someone that has at least as much experience as me.
