is there anything that you shouldnt use a wire gate biner for that you can use a regular gate for (i know what you need to use locking biners for)

You shouldn't use a wiregate for SEARCHING BEFORE YOU POST.
Edited to actually answer your question.
The only real downside of wiregates is that except for very specific and expensive carabiners (DMM Shield and WC Helium), you pretty much have to have a notched nose. You also, as you pointed out earlier, shouldn't use it in any situation in which a locker is preferred. Other than that, it's all preference.

The main thing I watch out for in wiregate biners is color. Since the biners are interchangeable for pro vs. rope side, I make sure they're a different color so as to not mix them up and risk nicks and dents in the rope basket of the rope side biner.

Some people say that the flat plane formed by the wire gate is more prone to catching on bolt heads than the round bar stock of a solid gate thereby making it easier for a wire gate to be inadvertently opened during rotation on a bolt hanger.

Back to opening beer bottles with biners. Speaking of which, I dont see why you couldn't with a wiregate, but I have never tried.

racking stoppers- at least in my case. damn near lost half of mine when they worked their way off a wiregate some years back. only rack 'em on solid gates these days.
otherwise, opening beer bottles is the only real limitation.

I second the limitation for racking stoppers.
I always thought my partner was quirky for racking his stoppers on a solid gate, until this year when I lost a couple of stoppers from racking on a wire gate.

I've never had an issue with my stoppers on a wire gate. What's the problem with it? Stoppers make up almost my entire rack so dropping them is a big no no.

Answer: Stoppers racked on wiregates attract Gremlins who attack my rack and randomly unclip one or two.
Solid gates keep the gremlins away. YMMV.

i know a fair number of folks who have had the same problem, but just as many that havent had any problems....i think its a combination of where you rack them and what carabiner you use.
