I managed a ten mile bike ride and a bouldering session at the mill mon, wed, and fr. last week. When the climbing was done friday I was whipped. I did a few miles canoeing sunday and a twenty mile bike ride today. I need a nap.

Geez Charley, sounds like you are in training for a dang marathon or something! Keep it up, get you butt back up to NH for the Ruckus next year and we will go do something big on Cannon or Mount Washington!

Bill, I'm just fighting getting old and fat or maby training for old age. I am trying to strengthen my legs so I don't have to have knee replacements.
Kalob if you are talking to me I climb rock. I make easy climbs hard. I boulder, toprope, lead trad, and if I can find it easy enough I lead sport and solo.

Hey-- I'm coming up Oct 12th weekend from DC for other reasons (daughter in kayak race) & wanted to climb 1/2 day around State College, Bellefonte Quarry (been there in past), etc. Q1: is OK to climb in Bennefonte now? Q2: is there another place near there to climb, & might meet climbers to climb with?? (am very experienced)

any ideas??????

Man it's been awhile since I've posted on here... unfortunately it's because I haven't climbed since May.

Finally got out this weekend, though. Beau had fall break from school so I took Monday off for a Saturday (night) through Monday trip to Seneca. We did GNTSPD on Sunday which had some very cool exposure. On Monday we did Ecstacy Jr. then walked over and did West Pole. Beau did a great job leading it while I just about shat myself at the roofs ~200 feet off the deck. Probably one of the coolest climbs I've ever been on.

Then one of the guides free soloed the route behind us and made me feel like a pansy but that's a different story.

Awesome weather for the trip though. All sunshine and highs of 73 with lows of 43. And we didn't see a single person climbing other than the guide on Monday.

DCrockboy
You will definitely get some responses in here regarding Bellefonte (it is definitely closed) and other areas. But you might get some more in the other PA climbers thread. They seem to focus more on the eastern part of the state.

Is there any cragging at Seneca falls. I just moved from Utah and am looking for some stuff to keep me busy. Not ready for multi yet, though. Been to Cooper's. Thinking about Narrows?

You'd probably be more interested in the New River Gorge if you're looking for single pitch stuff. The New has great trad routes and also good sport ones. The Red River Gorge is also another option.

There is an area near Seneca called Franklin Gorge that I haven't been to but hosts some few dozen sport routes.

Man we have a lot of gorges...

Don't forget to check out Tim's stuff in the Connellsville area Wink

Is anyone going to seneca this weekend 10/18?
It is the end of the season party at seneca and bridge day at the new. I just got back from rumney last night and have no plans for the weekend yet. I may go down for the party with my wife and see if I can climb a little. May just go to coopers. Have a great time whatever you do. Our outdoor season is running out.

One Wise man and I headed to Copper's to climb the Roof Rock area. Mostly just fooling around, doing three climbs on each rope. We covered the whole wall. Pulled the roof to the left of the giant one-so burly!

The day started a bit nippy, but wasn't too bad to climb and warmed up nicely. It was a gorgeous day. There must be something special about the light in autumn.

I was at the mill again yesterday. I stopped at the guard rail and climbed on both sides of it. It was all new for me and looks like it is seldom climbed. Some stuff was chossy, some was very sharp, and some was some nice climbing. I had a great time. The climbing is just so great on sunny autumn days.

Hi Everyone,

I am going to be in Pittsburgh visiting my family this week and was thinking of climbing at a gym, Monday if I can, but more likely Tuesday, maybe and/or Wednesday.

Would anyone want to climb with me on those days? I climb around 5.10 on topropes, depending on the ratings. I live in NY and climb mostly at the Gunks, but indoors or bouldering in Central Park when I can't get up there.

I think "The Wall" on Penn is the place to go, right?

Thanks everyone!

Cheers,
Mike

Mike,

"The Wall" on penn ave is definately the better of the 2 gyms in Pittsburgh. There is a pretty friendly group I climb there with on tuesday/thursday (usually TRing) and my buddy Apple and I will most likely be bouldering wednesday. So you'll deffinately have people around to climb with...

Hope to see you there

Another great day at the mill. I had just put my stuff in the van and came back in the house and the phone rang. It was some friends from da burgh heading to the mill. I said cool, I'll cya there. I pulled in and thought I had driven into the future. It looked like a busy weekend not wednesday in november. There was a big group with linsly with ropes on everything and few ppl on the ropes. We put some ropes up on the five fingers block and had a great day. The weather was great, it was good to see alot of friends as even more were there, and my climbing was ok too. Cool

Partner for Thanksgiving [In reply to]

I mean for climbing and not carving a turkey...

Looking for a partner for the whole weekend (thurs-sun, but can be convinced for fri-sun). Possible places (depending upon weather) - Red, New, T-wall/Sunset combo in Chattanooga (Sunset because T-wall is only open on Thursday and Friday), Obed, somewhere in NC, Gunks - or similar that are within a few hours from western PA. Trad and/or sport. I have decent experience, am safe, lead at a moderately reasonable level (recent climbs on my profile). Have gear and car, and am cute.... That got your attention, didn't it?

Please post here or PM me if interested.
Thanks.

It looks like cardrerock and great falls on the other side of dc is the closest. Sugarloaf up by frederick is in the sun and may be faster to get to.

Hello all,

Been a while! I am looking to take a trip, feel free to post in that thread if you can join:
http://www.rockclimbing.com/...post=2023795#2023795

I hope everyone has fun over T-day week. I can't join this holiday because of a memorial service for my passed grandfather. There is a decent possibility I will go to my HS 10 year reunion on Saturday following T-day. It could be interesting to attend.

Definitely liking the cold.... the friction has been awesome the past few weeks! Guess I'll have to switch over to some overhanging aid in the upcoming week of rain. Maybe a cold snap after the rain will bring in the ice?
