Prussik loops are the tits. Cordelette. Skills (practice everything you see in those self rescue books many times before heading out). Extra biners. Read up and practice, and that should be enough.

My personal choice: BD ATC Guide + Petzl Shunt. Equivalent gear is also applicable. No need to spend cash on tibloc. If you’re not aware with the required techniques (and you’re obviously not) I recommend you to invest some time and money and find someone who can teach you.

you can get away with basically just prusiks if you know what you're doing. But you have to get one of those Self Rescue books and practice, practice, practice. (or find someone who'll teach it to you. a little tougher to find)

you don't really need the pulley. a "rescue" kit includes two prussik loops, two cordelettes, and an abundance of carabiners (locking and non-locking). you can take care of pretty much any conceivable situation with those things. if you're multipitch climbing, you probably have a couple cordelettes on you already anyway. your prussiks should live on your harness at all times (i find clipped to the haul loop, behind the chalk bag to be a convenient place for them). carabiners are something you'll probably always have an abundance of. the last step is learning how those things are actually useful. that requires a book (the mountaineers book on self-rescue is decent), a knowledgeable friend, or a guide.

A cordelette is often used for many of the skills. Try practicing with only a few shoulder length slings and a couple locking carabiners. You can make friction hitches from slings. Also, practice a Mariner hitch and Munter Mule Overhand.

you know Majid, I'm actually pretty sure he won't need 4 helmets (one of which looks suspiciously whitewater esque), 9 rappel racks and more ice screws than an alpine assault on the eiger. But i'm sure you'll let me know why I'm wrong

For Books: Mountaineering; The Freedom of the Hills is a great resource. For Gear: I love the Petzl GriGri b/c it is so versatile for all sorts of situations. Works well for an ascender in conjunction with either another ascender device or knot. Woohoo! This is my first post!!
