I am forging pitons to give to friends for key chains and just the fun of it.

I am following the lay out in Chounards " Let my People Go Surfing'

I am looking for more refined details like . Do you slit the biner hole before hot punching it?

forge the blade first or punch the hole first.

Thank You
Marc

Look over on MountainProject.com. There are a couple of guys over there who make their own pitons and other aid gear. Seem to remember a couple of threads about that in the last year or so.
