We are planning a trip to the French Alps to climb the many Via Ferratas in that area. Any advice on the best time to go. We'd like to go in May but we can delay until June.

The area is south of Geneva, Switzerland.

Thanks,
Susanita

Where exactly do you plan on going?

Anything below 1800 meters elevation is pretty much free of snow right now, especially anything that is not north facing.

Here's a website with info you might be interested in:

We're going to the Hautes-Alps region. The nearest town is Briancon. That's a good site viaferrata.org. We're using the book Via Ferrata a complete guide to France. Very informative.

We did call about lodging in the area yesterday and they said later is better. It can be rainy in May. We were going to camp but the lodging is much cheaper than I expected. And airfare is of course the cheapest it's been in years.

Thanks for the input.
