I was wondering if anyone on here has crocheted a chalkbag before? If anyone has, I would appreciate any tips because I am currently at the suck stage of crocheting.

You are serious?

It is such a trollish question, it screams troll... but so obvious... it has to be real!

No, I haven't crocheted a chalk bag, but I won't have any trouble crocketing one, if you convince me that it is a good idea... I mean, it will have the chalk coming out all over, b/c you can't make crocheted piece be air-tight, so what's the point of that bag? Unless you want to crochet the outside part, and then line it with a piece of fabric...

Anyway, if you have crocheting questions, ask away! ;)

Yes. It is exactly like crocheting a beanie.
The suck stage of crocheting doesn't last long... keep practising.
You will have to line it with something to stop the chalk leaking out.

Is this why my crocheted condom doesn't seem to work at preventing... anything?

Yeah
You need to line it with latex

Funny, I know someone who has crocheted about 40 the past few monhts and continues to receive requests. The challenge is that word has spread that this person will do requests: snake, yoda, cupcakes, goldfish, eagle, etc.. And then there are those folks who want modifications to completed units.

So once you get the crochet part down, lay down the law! No modificaitons! No refunds on special requests! And $20 is too cheap in my opinion.

I know the bags have liners. But that's about all I know.

Or - crochet it to use it in the same way as a chalk ball ... squeeze the bag, get some chalk on the hand.

Those fancy ones look great... but my friend has a teddy bear chalk bag (sewn, not crocheted), and while it is certainly a "conversation starter", it is actually a very bad chalk bag... Too big, too many parts sticking out, ready to snag at something, the lid, aka bear's head, gets in the way when you actually try to, you know, chalk up... and very uncomfortably hot for a large part of the year...

Function versus form. I understand your point. For the record, I don't use a chalk bag/bucket. Also, most of these are used in the gym and probably the biggest buyers are young adults and kids. Proceeds have all gone to buy goats for families in Africa (I guess that's OT).

Anyway, I especially like the goldfish - mouth is where the hands go in. Also cool is the octupus with the dangly tentacles.

I doubt I am good enough at RC.com to make a decent troll. I am planning on lining it with fleece or similar.

what gets hot? do they get a hot sweaty patch on their arse where the bag hangs, or do they get a hot hand when they chalk up (which leads to sweatier hands than prior to chalking up)?

Start by making a small beanie.
1. 5 chain stitches
2. Connect them with a single stitch
3. Go in a circle doing doubles after every 2 or 3 single stitches.
4. After a couple rows, do doubles after every 4 single stitches.
5. Only do singles when it's big enough.

Then for the liner, basically just make another bag to go inside your mini beanie.

1. Cut out a circle of fleece that's the same size as the beanie.
2. Sew on a rectangle of nylon to the fleece so that you have a cylinder with the fleece on the bottom (One side of the rectangle should be the about the circumference of the fleece, the other side should be about 4 cm. taller than the depth of the beanie). This part is kinda funky. You have to bend the rectangle around the circle as you sew.
3. Sew the two sides of the rectangle together to complete the cylinder.
4. Fold the top of the nylon over to the inside about half a centimeter and iron it. Sew that down for a lovely hem.
5. Now for the drawstring. Go get some eyelets, punch a hole in the nylon 2 centimeters from the top, and hammer in the eyelet.
6. Fold the nylon over again about 2 centimeters to the inside and sew this down for another hem. Make sure not to sew right below the eyelet because it's easier to work the drawstring around the hem if you leave that part open.
7. Sew the bag into the beanie. Sew around the bag at the last hem.

Hope that makes sense...

both... But the climber in question is more concerned about the sweaty patch on her behind.

Actually, similar to a crocheted hat, it will prevent everything related to mating.
