Aren't you only 18 years old? I think you're only allowed to have a midlife crisis . . . you know, midway through your life! Sly

Enjoy the Valley.

I take a year off of work every few years. Lucky for me, my career allows that. In the International School system, it';s the norm to take a year off every fifth or sixth year. Sort of recover, travel, and recoup to be ready for another five year.

Work four of five years, take a year off and look a new teacher position somewhere interesting while traveling and climbing. Pretty rough life I live.

I really enjoyed the friendships I made at my HS job. Even this weekend I randomly ran into two of my former coworkers out partying. I gave them a rickshaw ride.

Everyone we passed (I was carrying 5 girls), Sunny yelled to people on the street "Just so you know, I lost my panties in a bet" right when the drunk horndogs got excited, her friend who I didn't know yelled "And I won them back"

For like 10 blocks down a busy downtown. Awesome (sorry Jay).

Still, it's the relationships that a HS job is good for. You live at home, you don't need the money.

I always wondered how you managed to end up in Surabaya. I've been there--and it's a bit off the beaten path.

Curt,

Surabaya has a small Intentional School connected to the American Consulate and a few other foreign businesses. They needed a Math teacher and I had to find it on the map. Liking off the beaten path, I jumped on it once I confirm they were cliffs in the area.

So far, no regrets. Lots of potential like this http://class5photos.blogspot.com/search/label/Rock, friendly locals, nice cost of living, and it's very easy to travel around Asia from here. (Rain season it about the only bad thing I can think off.

Bigger question, what were you doing here?

Eman

In the early 1990s, Indonesia had two stock exchanges--one in Jakarta and the other in Surabaya. They were fairly primitive and in fact the Jakarta exchange still wrote the current bids and offers for each stock on a chalk board--much like the NYSE of the 1800s. We (The Arizona Stock Exchange) were asked to submit a proposal to automate these exchanges and I went there to make our pitch. Ultimately, they selected another vendor, but I enjoyed the experience none the less.

Perfect description off life in Indonesia. The haves and the have not that Hemingway wrote of is definitely in full force here. Still loads of chalk boards across the country, very 1800s for sure. Especially when you leave the big city.

Sounds like you have an Interesting job, especially with today's turbulence in stocks. I have to admit, I am avoiding the Indonesian stock market at all cost. Not enough transparency for me.

Hope we get to climb together one day.

Eman

Whoa hold up there. Your pic looks like it was taken in RR; if you are from Vegas, this is not cool. I just found a Sonic that is actually good here, and if you're the reason my food doesn't suck...

Ah fug-it, have fun, I'll go to BK.Mad
