I have a few weeks off in mid to late december and want to take advantage. Any advice for trad areas in the dead of winter that wont be too miserable? Specifically in California or Nevada with moderate grades. Im new to the area......Thanks for any advice

J-tree has 5,000 routes across a big enough area that you can find your pleasure no matter the weather. Red Rocks could get a bit cold depending on where you go (Icebox canyon is not recommended this time of year) but there are several superb areas in the sun just waiting for you to get on them.

I'm not sure if december is too early or not but you might think about owens river gorge. It's N of Bishop and has some top notch sport climbing and I hear the bouldering ain't too bad either. It is a bit closer than J-tree and red rocks. It is also a lot easier to find your way around if you aren't with a local.
If you need a partner for day trips give me a call. There is still climbing to be done in S Tahoe and consumnes(placerville).

Yosemite can actually be pretty nice in the winter if you catch some good weather and stick to south-facing routes.

Yose can be good year round, watch the weather and stay in the sun, the Cookie is escpecially nice when it's cold.
Theres some "secret" areas in southern cal but I'll let those locals give that info if they want to.
