So i was looking around on DMMs page, and this line on their nutbuster nut tool got me wondering: "The Nutbuster can be slung directly on a carabiner, but mountain rescue teams get fed up of digging nut keys out of bodies so it is always best to sling any nut key on a short piece of climbing cord."
Crap, i am in total danger, since my nuttool of coice ( trange shark) can only be used with a direct carabiner clip.
Why would that be dangerous?

Yeah I like the freenut better. I found with a biner, the tool hangs down too low and gets caught on my pants when I highstep.

It's basically the exact same principle as involved in the "am I ever allowed to clip nuts with QDs" debate. If the nut tool is clipped directly to a biner it's in a stiffer position and if you land directly against it you could probably impale yourself.
In practice I've found that nut tools with cam hooks clipped directly to biners are the ones that seem most likely to end up in odd positions that aren't parallel to the body -- thus most likely to become stabbers.

I'm so confused. I clip my nut tool to a biner and actually have a small cord that is connected to the biner and the tool. That way I can leave the biner on my harness and fiddle with gear without the fear of dropping the tool.
I wonder what I'm doing wrong?

I don't. I bought my nut tool about 10 years ago in the UK. I thought it was made by climb high, but apparently they are a Vermont company. I couldn't find a pic, but it is basic: curved end with a couple of holes for tightening bolts, which serve better to clip my nut tool to.
I'm calling your nut tool in the pic above aid.

Theoretically, DMM's suggestion makes sense since the tool has fewer degrees of freedom (in engineerspeak) to get out of the way when it's on a carabiner.
Qwert: you could clip the biner on your Shark to a piece of cord girth hitched to your harness, or attach both the biner and cord through the Shark and let the biner hang free.
I hadn't heard of this issue before, but I might take DMM's advice myself.

i made my own two nut tools. one specializing for micro nuts and the other for large nuts and cams. i'm pretty sure the one for the small nuts could act as a knife during a fall

You have to clip the Shark into a carbiner, otherwise the knife will open. I have one of these, but switched to the piranha and regular nut tool. Put the nut tool on a small length of prussik size cord. I didn't like the Shark, because it binds up when you try to move it on the carabiner.

Got me one of those fancy key zip things at the hardwear store, clip it to a belt loop in front. No fussing with clipping and unclipping, no dropping, just grab it, and when yer done drop it and it zips right back into place.
