I wasn't yet part of the climbing community during this time last year - so its quite possible it’s a spring-time thing; but it seems as if June has been a pretty rough month for climbers and mountaineers this year...

unfortunately not really. Lots of climbers die every year. stick around you will see.
On top of the relatively high mortality rate it is actually a fairly small community. Most fairly active climbers tend to run into each other over the years. It's sad when we lose someone as it seems we all know them or their friends at least.
