Anyone been up in the Enchantments recently? Hoping to do some climbing on north side of Mount Stewart in the next week or so. Any idea of snow conditions near on North Ridge and Girth Pillar? Thanks for the help, John

Storm clouds over the Upper Enchantments Basin/East end of the stuart range friday night ~8000 feet Just got back last night from three very thunder stormy days in the Enchantments Lake area (between Dragontail and Prussik...Stewart is the next valley over and not really in the Enchantments Lake Basin but only a few miles away). The trail in was snow free to aasgard pass ( 7 or 8k feet) and lots of post holing in the basins above that. Talked to some people coming down from Stewart Lake who said the trail was fine that way too. We left our boots in the car and got wet and cold in non waterproof approach shoes and lots of extra socks. Most rock faces and steep slopes were snow free, but heavy thunderstorms started around 11 am and due to a quite alarm we overslept and were only able to get two pitches of actual rock climbing in but it was still a very fun trip. Pics from our trip are here: http://www.flickr.com/...s/72157619700631771/ I have no idea what the glacier up to girth pilar would be like (haven't done the route).

No worries, we knew thunder storms would be a risk but wanted to get up there on the last permit free weekend of the spring. At least we have lots of ideas and approach beta for next time, hope your trip is a blast and watch out for those thunderstorms...WA is in a really odd weather cycle right now...the weather is coming in from the east and they build right over the stuart range. Here is the north face of dragontail during one of the storms around noon on a day that dawned clear: It was nice know we made the right call backing down. Also probably a similar aspect to the north ridge of stuart and one valley over so as you can see, snow freeish.
