I might be going up next weekend on Fri. or Sat. I won't know for sure until Tues. I'll keep in touch and let you know.
In the meantime, you can go to here http://mountainproject.com/.../the_gunks/105798167 to get some info on the Gunks.
You can then use the link on the left side of that page to see pictures and get route descriptions for the Trapps.

Rides to the Gunks from NYC aren't really the easiest to coordinate.
Good luck to you, but don't worry if nothing seems to come together. You can take a bus from Port Authority Bus Station(42nd St and 8th Ave) that will drop you on Main Street in New Paltz, where you can taxi/bum a ride/hitchhike to the cliffs.
In the Port Authority, the bus ticket places are on the lower level, near the 42nd street entrance. There is a Trailways and a Greyhound "shop" and they both sell tickets, I believe the price is the same, so just choose the one that has the shorter waiting line is my suggestion.
The cost is $19.50 One Way, $39.00 Round Trip

Enter New York City as departure, and New Paltz as destination to get a schedule of departure times.
The bus terminal can be a little confusing, especially on weekends when the line for Albany(the bus goes TO New Paltz on the way to Albany, final destination) and Montreal are as one.... A person from the station DOES come through close to departure time and get everyone squared away. At atny rate, you hand your ticket to the driver before boarding the bus/stowing your bags, so you can make certain you're in the right place at that time.
Once in New Paltz, the taxi station is tright at the bus terminal. But a taxi to the cliffs is likew $20 one way... And, it's a small town and you may have to wait for the taxi.
An option is to do a quick check with people picking up others at the bus station in NP and ask if anyone is headed to the cliffs. OR walk down to Rock and Snow gear shop, and ask people as they come out(both these options work best on weekend mornings before 9:30am).
OR hitchhike. With your rope/pack and such, most people will know where you want to go.... And even though it may seem weird to hitch a ride, it is not out of the ordinary in NP.
Personally, I walk through town and stand in front of the Gilded Otter restaurant. It is about a 5 minute walk down Main Street, passes Rock and Snow, and gives drivers a safe place to check you out and pull over. Depending on how much stuff you are carrying, this maybe harder to handle.
I am pretty sure hitching isn't legal, but I have never had a problem. Obviously, if you see a cruiser coming down the road, don't stick your thumb out, and maybe not be so obviously hitch hiking.

cool, probably I have found a ride to go on fri morning but let`s meet at camp.
Now my cell phone doesn`t work... but I`m tryn to fix it!
I`m still looking for buying a cheap tent in NYC, not easy...
