So I've decided that in the summer of 2011 I want to climb the Nose. I have a partner that has climbed it before and we are going to do it together. This fall, I plan on doing trad, maybe a big wall. I need to get used to multi pitch as I'm a sport climber (and boulderer). Outside of climbing multipitch routes, what are some good books to read about big walls, hauling, rope jugging, etc? I plan on learning how to ascend in my garage and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. What other suggestions do you have for preparing for the nose? Experiences? Many thanks! Zak

A lot of good info is here. John has also got a great book on big walls, don't know if it's linked from his site or not. edit: The second link that csproul gave is a good one from Chris McNamara that runs SuperTopo.

You are just learning to crawl and you already have aspirations of doing a long distance run. Good on ya! I just hope that you are not ahead of me when I do the nose.

zakadamsgt wrote: possibly Seriously, you're gonna die!!! Nah, probably not. So where are you located? Your profile shows a couple of boulder problems in Tenn. If in eastern Tenn, you might want to do some climbing at Whitesides and/or the north face of Looking Glass Rock in NC, just to get a small taste of big wall climbing.

You might want to learn crack climbing techniques and become very proficient at them. Just a thought…
