Route edits -- when do they happen?

I've gone in and edited the route descriptions for a number of routes - numbering them properly, or (in one case) noting that rock fall has completely changed/obliterated the route. After doing the edit, there is a little message saying that it must wait for moderation/approval... and I'll get a message.

Well, are route edits actually being looked at/moderated? It has been weeks for some of these changes.

If moderation of edits is not being done, perhaps leaving the editing open would be a better choice than, effectively, preventing any edits by nothing getting approved?

The edits are approved by the area manager(s) not the forum moderators or website staff. You can see who the area manager is for your area here: http://www.rockclimbing.com/...ase_Editors_557.html

Ah, thanks. Apparently the areas I edited didn't have an editor to approve the changes. Looked like a place to volunteer.

Hi there,

I have validated the changes made to the routes (all 500 of them Crazy ). I will keep an eye on the modified routes for now, so they shouldn't stack up so much again.

That's a lot of changes stacked up!

I'm willing to take over the Ontario routes.

I still don't think this area is getting much attention. IME, edits typically *never* get approved until/unless you PM an editor.

My understanding (and the behaviour I've seen) is that I get mailed if there is an edit I need to approve. I haven't seen any recently -- but I'm only dealing with Ontario -- have you submitted edits to the Ontario section that haven't been approved? Or was that a more general comment, rather than specifically addressed to me?

A general comment. But could you explain what you mean?

Does the site notify you when users submit an edit? Or do you mean when you get a PM from a user, you follow up on their edit and approve it?

I get an automatic email notification from the site when a user makes an edit, so I can go and approve (or not) the edit.

Gotcha. So there are just a lot of editors asleep at the switch.
