To Jay: yes, he is putting cams in pockets. Sometimes the only option in the cobblestone of Montserrat. It seems that the cams are doing their intended job, although in this type of rock it's always delicate to fully trust on cams. To escaladatrad: Jay referred to cams, not cameras. Cam is the regular term for "empotrador de levas o friend" in English. To e_wire: yes, it's Montserrat. The climber is Jordi Esteve (got his name from the link below, I don' know him). The climb is Pecata Minuta (7b, ~ 5.12b R) at La Panxa del Bisbe (the Bishop's belly). Congrats to Jordi.

Jay, I can empathize with your thinking. Being a granite climber, I cringe at the thought of a single piece protecting me in less than top quality rock. Especially while taking big falls. However, everyone has different risk tolerances. I once trad climbed on Irish Limestone. It was kinda scary at first, but then I got used to it. However, I didn't fall and test the gear at all.....

Sketchy. How hard is the matrix in that cobble? The stuff around here that looks like that is pretty soft...

Josh, I'm not so sure it's only one piece protecting him. It's difficult to say because one of the half ropes that he's using is almost the same color than the rock, and the video resolution is not that great, but I think I see other pieces below the one that arrested the fall.

Jay This makes more sense than your first post but I think you are assuming quite a bit. Just because he does it quickly, doesn't mean it's careless. Maybe he has already worked the route and has worked on that placement and has determined it's solid. I would also have to watch it again, but I didn't think it was his only piece. Josh
