I am newbie to climbing sport. I had been to the introduction of climbing last month. Afterwards, I want to learn more on climbing especially boulder. I am thinking of getting training board installed at my home. I know well that I am not able to pull up myself to training board. Any tips for me to pull up successfully? My weight is 78kg.

Maybe you should wait a little longer before getting a board installed in your house if you've only been at it for about a month.

If you're that new to the sport, I guarantee you that your technique stinks (no offense!). You might want to think about getting a book or two to help you develop the good habits that can form a solid foundation for the rest of your climbing life. Here's one:

http://www.rockclimbing.com/...ed_Climber_3697.html

Another thing you might want to do is buy a video or two to, one, keep you psyched and, two, show you what others boulderers are doing. Here's a very good one: Friction Addiction. (Scroll down about 2/3.)

While the bouldering in it is not super hard, they're in a storied bouldering area, and they even spend some time talking to John Gill, who many believe to be the father of modern bouldering. So, there's also some history in there for you.

Best o' luck!

Improving your climbing is a complex subject, too complex to do it much justice in one post on an online forum. An excellent book was recommended above, and there are others on the subject.

If you've got knee problems, seriously consider the fact that every fall you take in bouldering will be a ground fall. Top-roped climbing would be far easier on your knee.

Be wary of the urge to get on harder and harder problems as fast as you can, it's bad for your fingers and for learning proper movement. climb a high volume of low intensity (within your limit) problems, focusing on body position, movement, and precision on the holds.

Good luck.

Mr. Tastycakes' advice is good. Listen to your body, and keep your focus on enjoying climbs (nice lines or unusual movements can be just as much fun as holding onto crimps by your fingernails, although not necessarily as 'impressive' to onlookers).

Your fingers and most likely your knee may take significant time to get strong enough to manage your bodyweight over the more difficult climbs.

Enjoy.

Check out the climbing videos here on rockclimbing.com and youtube.com.
The self coached climber is a good book with video to learn about movement.

Oh and about the knee. Strengthen the legs. If you boulder use a pad. Toproping is easier on the knees.
Good luck and have fun.

So you don't think that you will be able to do a pull up..

Start by doing push ups, & sit ups then once you have your board installed don't do pull ups but do timed hangs. where you hang on a set of holds for 10-15 secs. then rest & do again, & again.

I am new too. I know from just working out I would try to do as many pulls ups as I could, then stand on a chair and lock off (chin above bar) and then go down as slow as possible repeat. Sort of like spotting when you life weights.

Wink welcome to new hobby/sport! I am looking for door pullup bar to install at home so that I can exercise on pullup often.

Recently, I received good tip from experienced climber here. Ok, we should climb/hit gym as often as we can.

I am blessed to work for climb asia and go for climb often daily as I can.

Enjoy your climb!
