Hey Canadians (And whoever else that could help), I want to buy rock climbing shoes for the first time in Canada, and all I find online and offline is mec.ca. I'm just wondering is this the ONLY place that sells climbing stuff or I'm so lame in finding other stores. I live in Windsor, ON. If you know any store OTHER THAN MEC in close-by towns , please let me know. Thank You, PS: it's not like I hate MEC or anything. I just want to know my chances.

climbing gyms sometimes sell shoes too, but they'll have a much more limited selection. there's a climbing store in squamish, but other than that... mec seems to be the only choice in ontario. but their staff's super knowledgeable and will help you find the right shoe, and you can test it out on their climbing before paying for it, so they're not bad at all for being the only option.

Is that near Detroit? I think Moosejaw isn't all that far from you. I've only been to the store in Chicago and ordered online, don't know what they might have around you.

I feel sorry for you over there on the east coast.. we have lots of options here in BC. you should start asking around where your climbing, I bet some gym is selling shoes, or even if some shoe store is selling climbing shoes. I just about posted this & thought "hey why don't I check la sportiva or some other shoe company & see where there outlets are" BAM La Sportiva outlets in Ontario http://www.sportiva.com/...ers/dealer.php?id=ON

You could also try Coast Mountain Sport (now renamed Atmosphere), there is a new one in Windsor.

If the West Coast was discovered first, there wouldn't be an East Coast.

It's possible to hop across the border and buy at REI (Troy, Ann Arbor, Northville) or at Planet Rock. You will probably get the best selection and help at Planet Rock. The Pontiac gym is about 25 minutes from the bridge. Have you been to the new bouldering gym in Windsor? You should check it out if you haven't been or been lately. There are lots of problems of all ranges, we are trying to get a bunch of regulars to boulder and hang out to make it a fun and encouraging scene. For info you can call 96-WALLS. It's still a work in progress but it is already great. Hope to see you out. Good luck with the shoes.

In reply to: It's possible to hop across the border and buy at REI (Troy, Ann Arbor, Northville) or at Planet Rock. You will probably get the best selection and help at Planet Rock. The Pontiac gym is about 25 minutes from the bridge. Thanks, but my problem is that I need a visa to pass the freaking border. I had one, but it is expired. That's why I am looking for places inside Canada.
In reply to: Have you been to the new bouldering gym in Windsor? Yes, I know that place. I'm there every Saturday, and I really like it. In the previous place, there used to be shoes for sale. aren't you gonna have them in the new place too? Thanks, See ya.
