So I recently had some vacation plans get messed up and now I've got 2 weeks (9/3-9-20ish) off from work and looking to do some solo top roping somewhere in the US. I climbing mostly in the 5.10-5.11 range. So the question is, if you had an open plane ticket, where would you go? Thanks!

Are you afraid of meeting people? You could go to a bunch of major climbing areas at that time and find partners easily if you are competent. But, the New River Gorge has miles and miles of top top-ropeable cliffs and it's not far from Pennsylvania. I guess I never thought about a solo top-roping vacation before.

No, I'm definitely not adverse to meeting new people to climb with. I initially had a vacation planned with one of my regular climbing partners but because of an injury he's not going to be able to make it. So now with 2 weeks to go I kind of enjoyed the idea of hopping on a plane to boulder or joshua tree (or anywhere else for that matter) and doing some backpacking and climbing. Ahh and I have been to the New. Great place. Other than the Junkyard I didn't think there were a great deal of areas that had (easy) TR access (not to change the topic of this thread).

With a 70 meter rope, you could toprope anywhere at New River Gorge solo. Anchor the rope at the top and use appropriate intermediate anchors if it is overhanging. Where have you climbed in the U.S. and what type of climbing do you like? September is really good in a lot of places. So it depends more on what you would like to experience for a specific recommendation.

This is only my second season climbing. Last year I hired a guide and did some easy 5.7 - 5.8 multipitch routes out in the palisades. This year I've climbed almost entirely at my local crag and was able to make one run down to the nrg. Not sure what you mean by what type. In all honesty I'd be happy climbing any thing (crack, slab, overhung). Since I'll be on TR I'd like to focus mostly on the 5.10 to upper 5.11s (which is pretty much my limit!). Sorry if my answers aren't very clear. Like I said earlier, I'm willing to go anywhere.

Yosemite is pretty good that time of year. Supertopo has a top roping guide. There are lots of climbers in Camp 4 and plenty of bouldering as well. I think Joshua Tree is a little warm then. Boulder has a somewhat decentralized climbing scene so you might have a hard time finding partners but you could probably make it work. City of Rocks is a good place and sort of like a more remote version of Joshua Tree.

I'd suggest anywhere you can learn to lead/sport climb. If you are TR 5.11/5.10 you should move on. Also that is the perfect time for EVERYWHERE!
