last night I was watching the Nova's mine rescue where they pull the 33 miners out in chile and honestly, that was the king of all rescues I have ever heard.

Insults aside, it was pretty neat to see the documentary. They called in NASA to help them with strategies to deal with people in enclosed spaces. The whole weening them back on to food thing was most interesting. And, Spike, yes there was a major mine collapse in Chile back in like August. the miners were stuck (a mile?) underground for almost three months.

Seems like something that the media would have eaten up. Jeez, 33 over 3 months is a lot of poop.

They had the extrication of the miners on the news. And yes, they were in a world of shit. Edit to add: let me google that for you

I actually wasn't aware that the miners had gotten in trouble. Aside from the one who's wife and mistress showed up at the site.

A part of the mine collapsed above them so they couldn't get up. And early reports were gonna have them up around christmas, so getting them up in early october was quite an accomplishment! And, 700 m is a bit shy of half a mile. (1 mile = c:a 1609 m)
