All of these the things in the flash application were measured with a standard 12" ruler. Perhaps you should have done the same.

Yeah, that's hilarious...
I'm guessing it's maybe possible. Phobos is something like 6000km from Mars and MArs has a gravity well of only about 1280km according to the diagram, so the baseball shouldn't be affected by Mars... I dunno, I don't know that much about planetary gravity... You'd need to send it in the right direction and also have to wait about 40 thousand days (or 115 years) for it to arrive, given you throw it about 50km/h. I think the closest Mars gets in about 50-60 million km.
