as was alrady mentioned, most "climbing" clothing isnt climbing specific. its outdoor sports. mt. biking, trekking, trail running, whatever...it all requires the same technical aspects of its clothing...toughness, flexibility and comfort. its just that you usually see them in outdoor specific stores where rockclimbing advertisements are popular.

most people wearing these clothes arent "posing" just because they arent climbers. its good clothing for outdoor activities and its stylie...

and prana was yoga before it was climbing. prana is actually a breathing state or something like that (im not into yoga...yet). havent you seen the sticky yoga mats they make? makes a pretty $#!&ty crashpad...

and caribiners are handy...whether you climb or not. nothing wrong with a little convenience in your life...

I have to admit,, I get a bit put out by some people who wear 350.00 jackets to the mall and are afraid to get them wet. There are two ways to look at it tho, If climbers were not cool then there would not be alot of people wanting to look like one. And people (mostly the nonclimbing community) think climbers are out there on the edge. And every body knows girls want to hang out with those guys, not the ones sitting around watching nascar eating hamburger on white bread. Just my ,not so humble opinion.

We should just come to terms with the fact that we are all totally bad ass and our clothing is totally bitchin, and that as long as we continue to be the radest people on earth, the masses will try to copy us.

Personally I just laugh inside knowing that they are trying to be cool by having little 'biner keychains, and knowing that the majority of them dont even know what it's called...by them it's known as a "clip" ...LOL.. ....rather than a carabiner...oh too funny... I would only teach them to climb if they are interested, otherwise...just laugh inside at their ignorance! ciao! ROCK ON!...

Prana is the energy permeating the universe at all levels. All vibrating energies are prana. All physical energies such as heat, light, gravity, magnetism and electricity are prana.

Or at least that's what the label of one of the Prana pants I got at their warehouse sale read.

I personally love Prana stuff, it's totally comfortable and durable for climbing. Most of my climbing clothes are Prana. And they have that extra amount of fabric in the crotch (I can't remember what it's called, it's this extra panel) that allows a much longer range of movement for when you're stemming, heel hooking, etc. Their stuff is kinda pricey but luckily I live close enough to get to their amazing warehouse sales.

Why are so many people so conceited as to think certain products were invented just for people like them?
I'm sure most of the clothes sold at outdoor stores were designed before the manufacturer even thought about putting a name to them.
Hell I think they invented all this stuff just for me! Why does everyone want to copy?

Posers are great!!!! They pay full pop for trendy outdoor gear!! That means more gear better prices and more companies and competition between them. Most hard core climbers/Outdoors people have a hook-up and never pay full price for anything. Why do you think climbers get sponsered and people get pro-deals? Its to attract "posers" to spend money!! Think about it! Next time you see that poser kid tell him he's cool and to buy more gear, he could be funding you next trip or you next pro deal.
Think about it!!!!

Just my opinion, I may be wrong, but shouldn't we discourage these poseur folks who think outdoor activity is walking from the SUV to Starbucks? These people don't give 2 squirts about our sport/lifestyle and don't know a carabiner from a crampon. They are the ones responsible for the rising prices of gear (not all) these days.
Why not expose their idiotic facade?

And if all else fails, arm wrestle the guy; you're actually in shape, he isn't.

This thread makes me want to strip my harness of all unnecessary attachments.

I thought I already went through this back in high school when pocket protectors, and calculators on the belts were taboo.

I feel the same way about non-climbers that flaunt gear and labels as I do about climbers that flaunt gear and labels. I'm just not into fashion.

First thing, your in Pa, the worst f-in place on earth. Second, there is no life there, so they have to grab anything that looks like life(I guess it shows that hey have human instinct) Also, the people are weak in Pa, they are followers. I flew to pa from SF one time and the pilot said "ok folks we are about to land in Pittsburgh, you can turn your clocks back 30 years", im not kidding...Dont insult me, its the truth, im living in erie, pa. for a short time, ive seen it!!! Its amazing to me how such a population is so ignorant...and stupid...

i think it's kinda fun to call someone's bluff when they are sportin' the gear but don't climb. but humor at the expense of others is what this country is all about, right?

and i (gulp) agree with lox/crakhead... after you call them out, take their women!

I can certainly empathize with the people who have disdain for "posers". On the other hand they (posers) don't really matter...

...so long as they are not causing harm to the sport. "Harm" might be actions that cause the general population the notion that the "poser(s)" must represent the average climber, thus all other climbers suffer.

A parallel might be drawn in mountain biking where a majority might obey the I.M.B.A. rules of the trail, yet a few uncaring riders can cause the majority trail access problems with other trail users.

(I never said it was a great parallel)

Myself being a novice climber and possibly a poser (depending on your posted view), climbing for me is yet another mechanism to enjoy the outdoors - yes, it's an awesome view all the way up.
