Can't Post

I recently read something that talked about Mallory and his famous quote, "Becasue it's there." Apparently, when pressed by an interviewer, Mallory elaborated, "To struggle and understand."

It seems that all of climbing lies somewhere between "Because it's there," and "To struggle and understand."

Anybody know the context/story/source behind both quotes?

Thanks,

B
