This formation is named The Spearhead so I imagine that it would resemble a Spearhead, but since I do not know the definition this is all i can give you.

Maybe if you can give us the part of the description you're refering to we can help you interpret it a bit. Otherwise, give the route name and area and maybe someone can give you better directions to it. duskerhu

I'm looking to gain a sense of direction at Indian Bluffs in Monticello, Iowa. Specifically, I'm looking for Ed Rock. It is supposed to be north of the Spearhead. I've only been there once and that was a very brief scouting trip. For those who know the area, the only landmark I can find is a formation called either the chimney or the gunsight. It has an old piton route up the back side and from what I can gather it is on Red Rock. Any directions would be helpful. (I walked from the South Parking lot, not the Jordan. For those interested, the Jordan is not pronounced like the basketball player. , at least locally. I grew up in Monticello, not climbing, and it was always, without dispute, known as the Jurdan.) Also, I know the guidebook can provide me with directions and I know where to get one, but I still don't know what is a spearhead.

ummmmmm... A spearhead is what Native Americans used at the end of spears to throw at dinner. spearheads are usually made from limestone or granite pieces of rock and shaped to look much like the pic above. good luck. jer

If you're still looking for directions/beta on the Spearhead PM me. The South parking lot (by the river) is the approach. The Spearhead is the name given to a tall fin of rock in front of the Hourglass Wall. Ed Rock is a large boulder to the left of that formation, maybe ~fifty yards from the Spearhead. Easier to find in fall/winter. PM me if you want more detailed directions.
