Funnily enough, you'll find more C4's out there than anything else.
Until recently they simply didn't have any worthy competition.

Just climb with others until you find the ones that you are comfortable with.

If you need advice as to which cams to buy, then you are not ready to buy them.

If you really want to get some, grab a couple of different types that will complement your climbing partners rack to experiment with.

When you are really ready to purchase, you will know.

You're the first person I've ever seen that said Camalots don't interest you. Is there a reason why you're not interested in Camalots? They're the most prevalent cam on the market today, though competition is becoming fierce. WC Heliums are all the latest rave these days, you might want to check them out. I can't offer an opinion on them, as I have none. You also can't go wrong with Master Cams IMO.

Perhaps you are learning old school climbing with hexes and nuts...Nothing wrong with that. Cams are great, but there is nothing like setting a passive pro. I like tricams. Like everyone else said try things out first before purchasing.

There is also a review of the Omega Pacific Link Cams on there.
