Hey all A friend and I made a spontaneous road trip out to Colorado from Boston and are heading to Boulder this weekend. These rocks are driving me insane (I am salavating). So what's the scoop = where can we climb this weekend? Any guides/parnters out there (we didn't bring any ropes/rack . . . but I've got my harness and shoes ready to go). Help get me on some rock. It's gonna be a long winter back home.

Headin out to Ouray this weekend, but if you don't find a partner, there's lots of good scrambles at 5.easy in the Flatirons. The third makes a nice solo if you feel OK with 800 feet of exposure for a handful of 5.4 slab moves. (skipping the summit to go through the back of the cave to rap station #2 misses the hardest stuff if you're sketched) If the weather's nice there's always other folks up top on a weekend who'll let you rap off with them if you ask nicely. Or you could hang out at the parking lot at Eldo with a "Will Belay" sign.

Thanks Brad! I cannot wait to get on some real rock after a few months trapped in a gym. Look for that sign! B

I don't mean to wreck the party but the weather is not going to be very nice this weekend. You should have been here during the week when it was well into the 60s. Just bundle up and be happy to get on real rock. I have climbed when it has been much colder and enjoyed it. Luckily, no precipitation. www.accuweather.com : Saturday 1/11 Mostly cloudy and cold High 38° F Sunday 1/12 Periods of clouds and sun High 51° F The flatirons are nice but only get morning sun. The third has been called "the best beginner climb in the universe". Eldo (trad) can be warm on the S facing slopes - especially the west ridge/rincon in the afternoon. Some crags in Boulder canyon also get good sun. In clear creek canyon (sport), highlander crag gets good sun. I cannot reccomend north table because it is a pile but it does get good sun.

avoid boulder like the plague, lest its unholy grasp strangle your will to buy sporting goods.

Hey all - I ended up hiring a guide - I just couldn't take it anymore and didn't have easy access to the internet. Had an amazing day in the Flatirons - easy climbing but I was just THRILLED to be on real rock. Now if you can help me get a job out there so I could relocate for good. Any tips? B

Depends on what youre looking for to supply your rent and food. Boulder is pricey on rent, but you can find cool people to split your costs. try the www.dailycamera.com and the www.denverpost.com for a quick view of any 'avail' jobs and good luck.
