I will pay you $5 for your otherwise worthless retired climbing rope. Must be at least 60 meters and you must clean it before sending. I will also pay shipping costs. Email picture(s) of the rope and info (length, manufacturer, condition) to bert6761@gmail.com.

How clean, and what are you using them for?

I know lots of things that are "otherwise worthless", but retired climbing rope is not one of them.

a 150' length of shitty laid polypropylene 100 lb strength is worth more than $5, even at harbor freight.

This sounds like a shit ton of work for $5. You want me to wash a retired rope, document it, and provide details about it? Even if the rope were worthless, my time sure as hell isn't.

I was thinking the same thing. Might be worth my time for $25.

I would take any clean rope, any length, pay shipping, but not give you a dime. I'll also take old cams, nuts, slings, biners, etc.

I would stockpile it in my garage until I had enough to appear on an episode of "Hoarders: climbers edition"

Okay, good feedback.
Try this. Take out the work of having to clean it. I can do that. No documentation or details are needed. All I need is a picture. I will pay you $5 plus shipping costs.

You didn't answer so I will ask it as well, what are these going to be used for?

Going to agree with everyone else here, that $5 is way low, and once you factor in the time spent for washing, packaging, and shipping them, is literally worthless to anyone selling ropes.

I'm going to speak from experience here, and say that it is really easy to sell used climbing ropes on craigslist for $20 or so (no washing or shipping), even if you are honest about their history. Especially in rural areas, people want tie down ropes, and climbing cords are great for that.

Find someone with a powerboat and ask 'em how much they pay for half-inch nylon dock line. Sell them old climbing rope for 50% of that and you both win.

I offer $10 any day and even give you 10 meter to keep so any 50 meter unwanted rope $10

edit; I cut them in 10m pieces and let overseas low income mountain rescue team use them to practice anchor setup or do drop test

Learn your audience bro!

Most climbers have a hard enough time coming up with fresh underpants and you expect them to clean a whole rope for $5? Dry it, pack it, ship it (even for free) for $5? wowsa! whats that, like 2.5 PBRs? You're gonna have to get it up to a 6 pack me thinks!

My billable rate for menial but time consuming tasks is $45/hr, so I'll sell you my old ropes for $115 each.
