I live in Phoenix. We frequently climb in Flag when it gets too warm down here. It's a little mchilly up there for me right now, but if you want to head south one weekend...

Yeah, the draw is much better than the pit, but when you are taking beginner climbers out, bouldering on overhanging limestone roofs can be a little discouraging. I don't like the pit for hard climbing, but it is warmer than the draw right now too. Besides, you live in Austin, what do you know about Flag climbing?

*gasp!* Flagstaff climbers?!? I just moved up here too and I'm trying to find people to go climbing with. I just got a position at NAU's little indoor climbing wall to meet people, in fact. I've only ever lead sport before, almost always at a 5.9 level... one 5.10 so far. PM me if you're ever wanting to go doo some weekend climbing! (Keeping in mind my experience). Oh, and I don't own a car or a bike or any method of transportation other than my own two feet... soo keep that in mind too.

Hey don't you guys know that Jacks is one of the five worst crags in America! Try doing some real climbing on natural holds for a change and save some gas money. Sedona and the Winslow Wall are closer and way better climbing. See you onthe sharp end, Bootyhead

OMFG. Austin and Flag are the two LIMESTONE destinations. We have hella rad limestone here... and we ARE TeamBLIMP.

Go to the draw... there is all that EZ stuff near the triangle boulder. There is all that EZ stuff near teh camping area (where the road splits off towards Howards/Puzzle Box)... and every roof area has some EZ boldering around.
Peeps just need a crashpad and some motivation.
Highball CLASSIC on the left arete of the triangle bolder.
I love Flag.
And don't forget... buffalo park.

I am strong, sweetheart. See my pics if you need verification of that. I'm glad Jack's was named one of the "5 worst crags". That way we have fewer people there and the limestone won't get greasy like I'm sure it is in Texas.
My husband and I are trying to do all the routes in Jack's and since we've finished about 60% of them I feel like we know the climbs pretty well. Yes, some of them are drilled and suck, but there are a bunch of natural good lines. But, hey, if you don't like it, you don't have to go. I also like the Winslow Wall, but it's hard to bring my dog there.
Anyways, don't assume someone isn't strong until you've seen them climb.

hmmm... just in my defence Lox, I don't look for "EZ" climbs. I look to have fun. If that fun happens to be on a route easier than one you might approve of, I guess you'll see me as somehow inferior. I'm not here to impress anyone, just to have fun. That said - if you ever want to go show me some fun climbs that will kick my butt, I'd welcome the challenge.

I am a sometimes Flagstaff resident (like now) visiting my brother who lives here. I WANT TO GO CLIMBING. I'll be back in early Feb sometime (if I even leave). I have no work so can go any day or part of day. Willing to try to follow anything. lead trad 10's and up to sport 12s and will flail on any boulder problem, but I have no crashpad. Otherwise I have enough gear for everything but heinous offwidths and big walls.

Asaph... it sounded like, from your post, you were looking for stuff that is easier than the horizontal roof climbing that IS the Priest Draw.
Actually, there is a lot of good boldering in the Draw that is NOT horizontal...
You SHOULD check both that AND the horizontal stuff out.
Failing that, Cherry Canyon has limestone walls that aren't horizontal roofs.

Well thanks for the advice Lox, it looks as though the internet has bred a miscommunication once again. I'll be sure to check those places out. I've only been to Jacks since moving here as I don't yet know anyone here. Horizontal roof climbing has been an ambition of mine for a while.. simply because it looks so fun! I'll try to find rides out to these places to see what you're talking about.
